Open the daylight plate to access the Hand Held Refractometer operation manual. Make sure there is no dust on your main prism and then place 2-3 drops of distilled on it. The daylight plate should be closed so that the water is evenly distributed across the prism's surface. Let the sample sit on the prism for about 30 seconds before moving to step 2. This allows the sample time to adjust to the ambient temperature.
